Private Campuses: Educational Facilities

With experience working with private schools such as West Coast University, American Career College, ITT Technical Institute, Westerly School of the Arts and La Sierra University: Fullmer has garnered a reputation for developing creative and useful education campuses.

Educational Facilities Featured Project

As seen off the 10 freeway in Ontario, this unique building design was one of Fullmer's greatest challenges. Exterior walls lean outward with angled corners and extended canopies. At 60,000 square feet, this fully functional medical training center is inclusive of classrooms, hospital-like surgery and check up rooms, computer training systems and a unique lobby that has the feel of the true outdoors. In every aspect, all engineers and designers went to the tenth degree to create this spectacular facility.

Our role was as a development manager to the client so it was important to us that the chosen contractor execute flawlessly, as necessary to meet the client’s expectations. The project required grading finesse around several municipal owned underground structures and seamless melding with the existing parking lot. In the end the project was a success and the client was pleased.

Educational Facilities Sample Projects

Fullmer completed construction on the 60,200 square foot Zapara School of Business for La Sierra University. Located in Riverside just off the 91 freeway, the 2-story tilt up building features steel and metal deck construction, an expansive gallery with 51' ceilings and a grand main entry to the rotunda with winding staircase. With interior landscaping as well as expansive outdoor plaza areas and walkways, the building is a true gem on the beautiful campus. The building hosts faculty offices, administrative offices, school club and meeting facilities, state-of-the-art classrooms, tiered lecture halls, traditional and collaborative classrooms and labs and catering facilities. The largest classroom is a 533-seat assembly room with raised stage and sound and lighting control room. The site also features on site storm water infiltration systems.

Fullmer Construction completed renovations on a chiller plant for Biola University in La Mirada. The design build on the 1,280 square foot building was completed while school was in session and the plant simultaneously operational. Fullmer worked around this complication to finish tenant improvements including the addition of three new chiller towers to the 30 year existing plant, bringing the total towers to twelve. Fullmer also added two new chilling units, further improving the output of the installation.

The plant, powered by three Caterpillar engines, creates about 90% of the energy for Biola University spread over 800,000 square feet of building space. It was crucial that the new towers be near completely level (no more than a ¼ inch off) with the existing towers in order for the piping to align properly. Fullmer also worked to match the new exterior walls to the existing structure’s paint and brickwork, despite the discontinuance of the older brick.

The renovations and new equipment construction in this unique building challenge were finished in three months.

Fullmer completed tenant improvements to a four-story 50,000 square foot educational facility for West Coast University in Ontario, just off the 10 freeway. Beginning with a colorful and inviting lobby adjacent to comfortable study and sitting areas, the building is completed with fully functional medical classrooms and computer laboratories. The development was completed while other tenants remained in the building, proving Fullmer's capacity to work under difficult constraints and time requirements.

Fullmer has had the pleasure of developing a few campuses for ITT Technical Institute. This particular project was completed in Sylmar, California and features 5,774 square feet of fully-functional educational and technology forward classrooms.

Fullmer, along with an architecture firm, developed an award winning new Performing Arts building for Westerly School of the Arts in Long Beach, CA. The 5,050 square foot building features decorative concrete block and wood as well as a covered walkway around the building. Development was also completed with an outdoor amphitheater for presentation of performers.
